PALAVER – By Patricia Urquiola

The Palaver Chair, designed by Patricia Urquiola in 2017 for Louis Vuitton’s Objets Nomades collection, draws inspiration from the traditional African “chaise à palabra.” This portable chair comprises two interlocking pieces, embodying a design that caters to travelers. The chair features a wooden structure paired with a leather seat, secured with snaps. Its distinctive aesthetic is enhanced by approximately 150 interwoven cowhide strips, forming an intricate net that showcases Louis Vuitton’s exceptional craftsmanship. Lightweight, robust, and collapsible, the Palaver Chair seamlessly combines practicality with elegance. Urquiola’s design reflects a deep appreciation for the history of design and everyday life, utilizing raw materials and traditional craftsmanship methods. In this piece, the exterior leather becomes an integral part of the structure, blurring the lines between form and function.
